mining/gathering bar

can anyone tell me what the bar is when you mine or gather ......i wanna know what it does
or why its there...please expleain

i cant say for sure, but it just seems like its only there to make it faster, i see no changes in the items droped when i click it, so i can only assume its just to make the gathering process faster *whoopty doo*

ok ok i think i figured it out.....if you click the yellow bar when the green bar is on it....
like this "---|" then i do believe it makes mining faster ie: i timed normal mining at 7seconds
on the dot.....when i click the yellow bar(when green bar is on it) it took 3.9seconds on the dot
so i guess its just so you can steel ppls stuff if they are by you and there are more than one
thing to mine or harvest :)
